On 25 October 2025, Meedhoo voted in a referendum to form its own Island Council, separate from Addu City Council. This is the digital home of that new council.
For years, Meedhoo was administered as a ward of Addu City. The 2025 referendum changed that: islanders chose self-government, and a dedicated Island Council now answers directly to the people of Meedhoo.
Meedhoo is an Island Council, led by a council president, not a mayor. Our promise is simple: open by default. Budgets, projects, procurement and decisions are published here in full Dhivehi and English, kept current, and linked to their source data wherever possible.
Referendum: Meedhoo votes about 85% in favour of forming its own Island Council, separate from Addu City.
Presidential Decree 33/2025 reconstitutes Addu City and establishes the Meedhoo and Hulhudhoo Island Councils, to take effect when the new councillors take office. Decree 5/2026 (Feb 2026) sets Meedhoo’s separate jurisdiction.
Meedhoo elects its first Island Council; the new council takes office and this open-by-default platform goes live.
